Brenda Lou Poland Dickey, better known as Mom, Memaw, and Momma Dickey, went to meet Jesus face to face on October 12, 2020. She was the beloved daughter of Hugh James and Willa Mae Poland and was born on May 5, 1940 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Houston, Texas. She was the youngest of three children who looked up to and dearly loved her brother, Hugh Poland, and her sister, Bertha "Tootsie" Mae Poland Shattuck. She grew up in Winnie, Texas and attended East Chambers High School, where she was a cheerleader and was given the title of Miss East Chambers and Miss Rice Festival Queen.She eventually met the love of her life, Kenneth Edwin Dickey and they were married on August 6, 1976 at her parents' home. Together they loved and supported a blended family of six children in their family home in Houmont Park in Houston, TX. Brenda loved having all the family together every chance she could. While she cooked a big meal most every Sunday for anyone who wanted to show up and eat, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day, Easter and Memorial Day were always guaranteed times for family, fun and showing off her amazing culinary skills. Her homemade yeast rolls and bread were the notorious and unanimous favorite of all. Ever the hard worker, she began a career working with computers at Fluor Daniel back in the day when a computer filled an entire room. Later she switched to the world of academics, working in Sheldon ISD and LaPorte ISD in their PEIMS departments for a combined 15 years. During her time with the schools, she made many lasting friendships and impacted many lives.She loved the beach and searching for sand dollars and other seashells. She enjoyed yearly vacations to Port Aransas with her family. She loved music, especially George Strait. She loved attending Crosby Church and hearing Pastor Keenan preach. But more than anything, she loved using her God-given talent to cook for and feed everyone she met. If you knew her, you knew that when she was around, you were going to gain weight. Brenda loved life and people. She never met a stranger. She always had a smile and a word of encouragement for those around her. She had an infectious laugh and always had peppermints in her purse to share with anyone that wanted one. She courageously fought cancer and beat it on a few occasions. However, on October 12th, she finally decided that the loved ones who had preceded her in death, her husband Kenneth Dickey, her parents, her siblings, her sister-in-law and husband Margie Dickey Rayburn and Eddie Rayburn and several beloved friends, had waited long enough for her to join them in Heaven. She peacefully drew her last breath in her Pasadena, TX home surrounded by her daughters. She leaves her legacy on Earth in her 6 children, 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, including daughters Donna White of League City, TX and her 5 children and 6 grandchildren; Shereen James of Deer Park, TX and spouse Russell and their 3 children and 4 grandchildren; Denise Mustin of Crosby, TX and spouse Ray and their 4 children and 4 grandchildren; and Kristina Lucas of Seabrook, TX and spouse Matt and their 2 children; and also sons Kenneth (Kenny) Dickey of Deer Park, TX and his 3 children and 5 grandchildren; and Randall (Randy) Dickey of Deer Park, TX and spouse Anita and their 3 children and 4 grandchildren. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and her cousin Clydine Pekrul of Lockhart, TX. Although she will be greatly missed by all, her family celebrates her life knowing she is now pain free in Heaven (Probably cooking for Jesus and anybody else she can) and that we will see her again. Until then, we encourage everyone to be like mom . . . Eat well, Pray often, and Love always!
