Larry W. Burgess, 83 passed peacefully on May 2, 2020 with family at his side. Larry was born June 12, 1936 in Omaha, Nebraska to Laura (Johnson) and L. Wray Burgess. He was the youngest with sisters Linda, Mary, and Phyllis. After graduating high school, Larry joined the army and served in Korea as a radio technician. He was honorably discharged in 1957. He spent a few years in college before starting his own TV/radio repair business in Omaha. His business relationships led him to a friendship with communication tower climber/installer Bill Foisey, whose younger sister became the love of his life. Larry and Sharon were married in Omaha in 1964 and raised 5 children as well as fostering John Thomas.In the early 70s, the family moved to Owatonna, Minnesota for a short time and after experiencing a winter in Minnesota quickly headed south for a new job to Irving, Texas. Larry worked for Secode Electronics and Motorola in Dallas until the late 80s. He began working for himself and eventually opening 'Radio Communications Marketing'. When his youngest was in her senior year of high school, 1992, Larry and Sharon bought a house in and moved the company to Gun Barrel City, Texas. Larry and Sharon were inseparable during these years running the business together and traveling until retiring and selling the business in 2006. Sharon unexpectedly passed away in 2007 resulting in Larry moving into an apartment in La Porte, Texas that he and Sharon had prepared for visiting the grandchildren. Larry and Sharon raised their children in the Catholic Church and were very active in the church within each community. Larry was an active Knights of Columbus. They loved to travel, mainly by car, with special stops to visit each set of grandchildren. After Sharon's passing, Larry became very active in the senior community around Houston. With special friend Joyce Pavelka, he enjoyed square dancing, ballroom dancing, and being a member of the Ukulele band 'Stars and Stripes'. He very much enjoyed playing 'gigs' around the Houston area and singing solos especially his signature song 'Red Rose for Blue Lady'. (Thank you so much Joyce!)Larry very much enjoyed talking about wood working projects and accumulated many tools in his workshop but he never actually did ANY! He was always up for a bowl of ice cream especially Blue Bell homemade vanilla. We will miss his spirit and great nature. Larry is preceded by his wife, Sharon, his sisters Linda, Mary, and Phyllis and great grandchild Jacob. He is survived by his children; Shane Burgess; Bryan Burgess and wife Judy; Tim Burgess and wife Kim; Kirk Burgess and wife Dinah; and daughter Angela and husband Jimmy Mascorro. He is also survived by grandchildren Aislynn, Tanner, Brenna, Zachary, Tate, McKayla Burgess and Jimmy, Jude, Jon Mascorro and great grandchildren Dannika and Dane Dudley; Ayden, Reese, and Bentley Burgess.
