Melody Ann Iturralde, 58, of Atascocita, peacefully left this side of heaven on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, in The Woodlands. She was born on February 20, 1965, in Houston, Texas, to her late biologicalParents, Darlene Allen and Vernon Dowell.
Raised by her late parents, Bobby J. and Lillie Nixon, in Pasadena. She graduated from Deer Park High School in 1983. In 2005, she obtained her Associate of Arts in Psychology from Lee College in Baytown.
The house of the Lord was her sanctuary. She was raised in the Trinity Tabernacle Assembly of God and is a long-time member of the Memorial Assembly of God and Sanctuary of Praise.
Thanks to her late parents and God, music became her passion and gift to the world. Starting in the pews following her family's music band, the Singing Nixon's, traveling from church to church, she eventually found her place in the chorus, then center stage as a regular soloist at church. Once becoming a mother, she enthusiastically shared her gift with her children, introducing them to gospel, classic Disney, and Broadway musicals. Her proudest accomplishment as a performer was lending her voice to the "Every Praise" CD with Cornerstone Fellowship.
She was a proud mother of her children, Ashlee and Aaron, and later in life, relished being Mimi to her grandchildren, Jayden and Evelyn.
She and her wife, Lisa, were married in 2014 in New York, NY. Their commitment to one another was unwavering, spanning nine years, a bond that transcended the passage of time and left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who had the privilege of witnessing their remarkable connection.
She was an avid genealogy researcher, spending untold hours researching both her adopted and biological families. She was an animal lover and Mom to countless cats and dogs over the years. However, hummingbirds and sloths had a special place in her heart.
She is survived by her wife, Lisa Iturralde of Atascocita, TX; children, Ashlee Larson Cooper and son-in-law Blaine Cooper of Willis, TX and Lee Aaron Larson of New York, NY; grandchildren, Jayden Lee Burns and Evelyn Grace Burns of Willis, TX; sisters, Carol McDaniel of Houston, TX, Jamie Dowell of Topanga, CA, Danielle Lambert of Sacramento, CA, and Pamela Christopher of Santa Fe, TX; brother, Steve Dowell of Santa Fe, TX; and many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, J.T. and Carrie Nixon, and Chester and Rose Ogden; aunt and uncle, Raymond and Rose McGlothlin; aunt, Rita June Ogden; brother, Steve Overton; sister, Loretta Overton; and many extended family members.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lee Aaron Larson, Blaine Cooper, Jayden Burns, Scott Hoxworth, Stan McGlothlin, and J Elam.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the ALS Foundation of Texas or the Houston SPCA.
Services will be held at La Porte First Church on Monday, January 29, 2024, with Bishop's Dr. Anita and Charlotte Simmons officiating. The family will receive friends and family from 10:00 am, followed by the funeral services at 11:00 am.
